Fishing Stories you may enjoy

If you're an avid fisherman, or fisherwoman (should we just use the term angler?) then you probably like the idea of reading through fishing stories. Listening to an expert angler talk about his times out on the lake, catching big bass is often an enjoyable past time. Here we have some fishing stories gathered from our moderators as well as our site visitors. If you would like to submit a fishing story please use the contact form above.

Fishing from a dock

I was at a friend's cottage once up in Cottage Country, Ontario. We had the fishing rods out and were waiting for some fish to come sink their jaws into our hooks. We must had been sitting there for an hour or two. My friend caught a crawfish, but no fish unfourtunately. After a while we started to get a little bored, so we hung our lines out underneath the dock - basically just dropped our lines under the dock instead of casting. Were we ever surprised in the change after that! We got a few nibbles, and then we managed to even eye out a fish or two under the dock (it wasn't very deep under there, just a residential dock built behind the cottage).

We lowered our lines in front of the fish we saw underneath the dock and after some bites, I caught a fish! It wasn't very big though, so we had to lower it back down. No use in eating the small ones, not enough meat to sustain oneself.

Boat Fishing

When fishing from a boat, it's really important not to scare the fish away. It's rare you will ever catch anything with the motor running. Usually, what you have to do when boat fishing is run the motor very low or quiet - arrive at your destination, wait a little bit, then cast your lines. If you cast your lines as soon as you turn your motor off you will just need to recast. This is because the fish have been scared away by the motor. You need to turn the motor off, wait, and sit for a while. Wait for the water to calm for 5-10 minutes, then cast your line and see how you do.
